The Lakes of Ludlow and Plymouth
Taking a left turn out of The Governor’s Inn driveway and following Route 100 north out of Ludlow (take a right turn at the traffic light after Okemo’s entrance / before Jackson Gore’s entrance) you will come by several beautiful mountain lakes on your right. Lake Pauline or Reservoir Pond, is the first one on your right. You might stop at the dam and enjoy a view of the lake from here. There is no public boat access to Lake Pauline, but you might use Lake Rescue’s boat access with a small canoe or stand-up paddle board and portage the road at Lake Rescue’s dam to get to Lake Pauline. Power boats are not permitted on Lake Pauline. On Lake Rescue power boats are permitted (but no water skis). The lake does have a public fishing access point which allows launching boats. Both Lake Pauline and Lake Rescue are good for some relaxed fishing.
The third lake coming from Ludlow is Echo Lake. Echo Lake has a boat ramp off Route 100 for up to 7 trailers. This lake also has public swimming access on its east side in Camp Plymouth State Park. Camp Plymouth also rents boats (pedal, canoes, kayaks, row boats).
The last lake going north is Amherst Lake. Amherst Lake like Lake Pauline is a no-motors lake. The state of Vermont maintains a public boat launch site and fishing docks on the lake making it easy for you to launch your kayak, canoe, or paddle board.
You will enjoy either of these lakes any time of the year. But, whatever your activity, please be safe and follow the local rules and common sense!
